A Major – Guitar Chords For Beginners

There are 3 different voicings you can you when you learn to play A. I think the easiest option would be the third voicing in the video with fingers 2,1,3. You might find it easier to fit all 3 fingers into the second fret.

Make sure you’ve watched my 4 Tips For Killer Chords video to get the most from your chords.

C Major – Guitar Chords For Beginners

C Major is a bit of a tricky chord at first because it spans three frets. This could be a stretch at first but as long as your thumb is in the right place your fingers should be able to reach all the notes quite easily. In the video you’ll see an additional voicing for C. That high note on the 1st string really makes this voicing sing.

D Major – Guitar Chords For Beginners

D Major is a lovely sound chord especially when you start adding some embellishments but more about that later.

E Major – Guitar Chords For Beginners

This open voicing of E Major is full and rich sounding. Incidentally if you move this shape down a string then you will end up with A Minor. Pretty cool ‘eh?

G Major – Guitar Chords For Beginners

G Major is another one of those chords that could be a bit hard at first because it spans all six strings and you have to fret notes on both the top and bottom strings. As always though providing your thumb is in the right place you shouldn’t have any problems. There’s also 2 voicings for G Major. The 4 finger G sounds a lot more modern than the 3 finger G. The second fingering (last chord in the video) for G is so that your first finger is free for some embellishments which we’ll look at soon.
